I bought the 'St. Michael' L.P. version of the Rodrigo guitar concerto, played by John Williams with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy, from the North End, Croydon branch of Marks & Spencer in 1978, as a present for my mother.

I found this article in the 'Daily Mirror' dated 13th October 1997: “MARKS & Spencer is tuning up for an attack on the £1.75 billion music market. The high street giant is teaming up with record company Polygram to launch its own range of CDs by the end of the month. Around 20 compilation CDs, costing £7 and featuring acts including Pavarotti and Mark Knopfler's Dire Straits, will be stocked in 300 M&S stores. The store group aims to expand its range to around 60 by the end of next year, with singer Chris De Burgh lined up as a possible addition.”
