Harpers Record Centre
Harpers Record Centre

Harpers Record Centre @ 87 Golborne shared a landlord with 93 a few doors down. Ted Carroll opened Rock On @ 93 Golborne in '71, and at the time Harpers was closing down. They had stocks of Jamaican ska & reggae and a lot of 60s psychedelic rock (an indication of the two main groups of buyers in the area at the time!) and Ted bought all their dead stock. The shop was Harpers, I worked there from approx. 1960, when I was 12 years old, until I was approx. 18 years old. It was also an Electrical shop, as well as selling Children’s toys, it was in fact 2 shops, one side selling Electrical goods, on the other, Records & Toys.
Yeah Harpers I worked there in 1964/5 used to work with a guy called Les and his wife Mary worked in the pram shop further down the road that was called Harpers as well
