Brighton Rock. It was in a part of town called the North Lanes which was tattily bohemian in the late 70s and early 80s. The owner often used to mend his old motorbike in the centre of the shop, dripping oil onto an old sheet. He used to let punk bands practise in the basement - don't know if Peter and the Test Tube Babies ever used it - i was more interested in the one hour browse through the second hard hippyana that seemed to populate most of the cardboard boxes.
Opened in 1980, this was one of the many second hand record shops of the era found in this street. Initially they specialised in back catalogue and hard to get releases from the rock n’ roll era but later expanded into other genres. The business survived for a number years before closing in 1987 whereupon it became a ladies hairdressers, David Beattie’s Hair.
