I worked at Bulloughs head office in Manchester Road in the 1970s and Thursday was pay day, so during the morning break we would get a van lad to take our list of the latest pop records and when they were out and about on the vans they would drop into the Knowsley Street shop and get the records for us, bringing them back at lunch time —it was an exciting day not only pay day but we got our hands on the latest single

My favourite at the time and one that sticks in my mind was Young Girl. I think. as my mind sometimes plays tricks, it was by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.

It was a good era even though there was lots of unrest in the 1970s, but the music world to me was at its best and record shops, like the book shops of today, were a smashing place to meet up with friends.
