Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe became friends after discovering their shared interest in electronic and disco music. Tennant bought a Korg MS-10 synthesizer, which sparked a conversation with Lowe. They bonded over their favorite electronic music, including Bedsitter by Soft Cell and Souvenir by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
The chance meeting in the Chlesea Record Centre led to the formation of the Pet Shop Boys, a UK band that is considered one of the country's most influential. Their debut single, West End Girls, was released in 1984, but it wasn't until a re-recording in 1985 that it became a number one hit.
