Drysdale’s was a wonderful place. My mum worked there in the late 50s and early 60s. Before I started school, Tom Drysdale (such a lovely man, who I always called ‘Uncle Tom’) would let me go in to work with her sometimes, and I was fascinated by it all. I can remember standing behind the counter (which I could barely see over), watching everything in wonderment. Sadly, my mum died last year, but I have a lasting friendship with one of her colleagues from Drysdale’s.
