I found this advert in the 'Nelson Leader' dated 23rd December 1949:

“ALL THE LATEST RECORDS IN STOCK (RECORD SALON SECOND FLOOR). ELECTRON RADIO CO. 48 and 137 LEEDS ROAD, NELSON. Tel. 963.”Dave

Whenever I visit Burnley it is always a joy to call at Electron Records. Burnley people are very very lucky to have such heritage in their town. The owner, Les, is an awfully nice guy - in fact he is a legend. It's amazing and wonderful to know that Electron is still going after so many decades - and the best thing is that the interior has hardly changed. It still feels like an old school record shop. Vinyl and CD will always sound better than mp3. It's a proven technical fact. People are starting to realise than having a virtual record collection is convenient but nothing beats holding and owning a musical artifact. Please don't ever close Les

"After WW2 ended.

My uncle Jim and Connie Baxter opened this business originally as two shops in Nelson Lancs.

First shop was at the tall buildings Leeds Road Nelson selling white goods and electrical 1940s then later in the 1940s they opened the Electron record shop (and electrical) in the Palace buildings Leeds road Nelson.

This shop moved to the Nelson underground market in the 1960s.

They also opened the electron on Hall Street Burnley in the 1950s. A huge amount of good business sense, hard work and staying power has made this business survive.

The dedication of the family to this has to be highly praised in my opinion.

Many record media music shops have gone to the wayside due to the high competition of the internet & music downloads. Still the Election has always been there.

A brilliant tribute to my Uncle Jim and and Aunty Connie Baxter.

I am proud to be related to this family."
