H.M. Shaw's

This photograph was taken in the late 1950s in her small shop in Carter Street, Uttoxeter which stood next to Willisford's. You could buy almost anything and she was one of the first H.M.V. record agents.

To the right of the cafe is H.M. Shaw's record shop where you could buy almost anything. Mrs Shaw was the wife of Ben Shaw the Carnival King.

She was very well known in Uttoxeter and sold almost everything, records, sheet music, balsa wood for making model aircraft, leather boot laces and cigarettes. She also used to charge the glass accumulators that people used to power their radios. The farmers came to market on a Wednesday, dropped them off, and picked them up the following Wednesday.
