In Newcastle there was the excellent Listen Ear around the corner from City Hall. It later became Volume Records and even had a short-lived record label (The Toy Dolls). Spent a fortune over the years in there, really great knowledgeable staff.

Listen Ear was the only shop in town that didn't stock the top 20! Instead, it had all sorts of lovely obscurities!

I found this advert in the 'Newcastle Evening Chronicle' dated 21st January 1977:
“STEVIE WONDER NEW ALBUM: 'SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE' - £1 OFF. LISTEN EAR RECORDS, 30 RIDLEY PLACE, NEWCASTLE. Tel: 21678.”
