I had the pleasure of meeting (Mr) Murray yesterday and what an incredible character he is. He had some amazing stories about the shop and his trips overseas selling music...he was telling me about his trips to Ireland to sell reggae, which I didn't realise had a big market, but he put me right!

I found this article in the 'Manchester Evening News' dated 4th February 1994: “WITH reggae music enjoying its most popular period for almost 20 years, the good news is that the first record shop specialising purely in reggae is opening in Manchester city centre on Monday. The shop, called MMC records, will be on Oldham Street and will stock a wide range of reggae music, specialising in those rare oldies. The man behind the shop is Murray, whose specialist reggae shop, Murray's Records on Princess Road in Moss Side, has been a landmark in Manchester for years but caters mainly for the very latest Jamaican imports. MMC will mainly be an oldies shop and with those old reggae pre-45s becoming more and more collectable, I'm predicting business will be brisk.”
