Comment: I owned Phocus on Records in Shirley in Solihull. It was open from 1978 to 1984 (during the heyday of "disco"). We got out when indies were a dying breed through agressive pricing by the multiples.

I found this piece in the 'Birmingham Weekly Mercury' dated 5th April 1981: “RECORDS - Do you like music? If so you've probably, like me, had some bad experiences in record stores. Not so in Phocus however, where the friendly attitude and helpful service is a pleasure to encounter. The top 75 singles are stocked at just 97p each plus a fine selection of the best new singles each week. There are over 2,000 ex-chart singles and oldies, some dating back to the fifties. You'll find Phocus at 264 Stratford Road, Shirley, Solihull (Opposite Fine Fare and Shirley Odeon). Tel.: 021-745 3495.”
