Comment: Russels sold hi-fi equipment at the front of the shop and you went right to the back of the shop down the steps to a small record department. The kind lady would put on a record for you before you bought it! Closed early 1980s? Became Adams for a long time afterwards.

I found this piece in the 'Hinckley Times' dated 21st June 1963: “Hinckley Dealer Visits Teenage Record Show. A recent visitor to Radio Luxembourg’s 'Friday Spectacular' was Mr. Charles Payne of Russells music shop in Castle Street. He was there as guest of EMI records with other dealers and after the show was taken backstage to meet staff and celebrities and to look round the recording studios. The show is pre-recorded in London.”
... and this piece in the 25th November 1988 edition: “... a woman with a long experience in record retailing, Josie Moore, has been in the trade for 30 years, a quarter of a century working for the late Mr. Charles Payne at Russells on Castle Street and, for the past six years, as manageress at Shooting Star on Market Place.”
... plus there are photos, a press cutting and comments on Russells music shop on this Facebook page:
