Used to buy records downstairs, deep house and early garage. Very friendly and helpful staff. 1995-1997.

Comment: I have very fond memories of Uptown Records. Last time I looked it was a boutique called Uptown Girl, but that was years ago. Great staff there in the early 1980s. I used to buy the cool 'alternative' singles - early Human League, Heaven 17, Simple Minds, etc. I wanted there, and trek over to WH Smith's for the more mainstream stuff that I was embarrassed about. One day I couldn't be bothered to make the trek and asked for a Billy Joel single (All For Leyna) and the man said 'not your usual style'. I bought my first ever record here - John Lennon, Imagine in 1975 and was too scared to speak, so just pointed at the Top 30 page from Music Week sellotaped onto the counter.
