I have very fond memories of Up Town Records. Last time I looked it was a boutique called Uptown Girl, but that was years ago. Great staff there in the early 80s. I used to buy the cool 'alternative' singles - early Human League, Heaven 17, Simple Minds etc I wanted there, and trek over to WH Smiths for the more mainstream stuff that I was embarrassed about. One day I couldn't be bothered to make the trek and asked for a Billy Joel single ('All For Leyna') and the man said 'not your usual style'. I bought my first ever record here -John Lennon, 'Imagine' in 1975 and was too scared to speak, so just pointed at the Top 30 page from Music Week on sellotaped to the counter.
